Forth road bridge, initially closed for eight hours and it is chaos , Now advised it is closed until January
I went to the shops today in the car, and could not get parked anywhere at all, All the
people that usually drive to Edinburgh had parked up and got the train, this was at all
the railway towns through Fife, all the parking taken, so no room for shoppers
Take the bus then, well I would but they are all full and drive past the stops

I think the local shops are going to have a lean time the next four weeks, if no one can
    shop
If you use online order for groceries, then it is trouble too, because it is not your local
shop that delivers it, it comes from the warehouses across the water
We have another bridge a thirty mile round trip, only with the additional 70,000 vehicles
they are tailed back eleven miles with a two hour delay

    Happy Crimbo

      Hi Jack,
Hope things get resolved for you as soon as they can.
I feel it was the right thing to do to close the FRB as on the news it said there was a 6" crack. Imagine if that had collapsed etc whilst there were vehicles/people travelling on it.

I worked in Edinburgh up to 2 years ago. The chaos from the trams closing roads overnight was no fun. The journey out of the city always crawling then a smash on the motorway. Heading over the bridge to the Dundee office was 40mph for loooong stretches bumper to bumper. I doubt that the bridge closure will be the end but you do have my sympathies. With the gale force winds they would have shut the bridge but just wait for more snow than we've had already this year much much fun to be had not!

The schools in Fife have bookings for the BIG PANTOMIMES in Edinburgh
Usually after school lunch they go on the coach have the pantomime then home
Now it is taking three hours each way travel, so all had to cancel, too long for the kids
and not so much the travel, but getting fed properly

Local office of six had a mini bus booked to take them to and from the main office party in Edinburgh £150 return, accepted, Now the bridge is shut the taxi want £300
I see the taxi point, it is an extra sixty miles round trip, plus loss of time available to take
          other fares
          What a mess
Now the alternate bridge Clackmananshire Bridge is closed due to Grid Lock
Only four more weeks to go

Thank god the queensferry bridge is getting built and on track because the forth bridge looks like its worn out.

I'm sorry to hear the chaos that's going on up there Jack. Surely replacing the bridge should have happened a long time before this? How long will it be before the Queensferry bridge is finished?

Let's hope the new bridge is being made of better steel. It's being imported from China...........! What I can't understand is that the crack/s have only appeared since the last inspection in May evidently, yet they have now found at least another 6 places where there are problems. All only appeared since May? me wonders how thorough the previous inspections have been. I'm thankful none of us commute to Edinburgh nowadays as The Bridge normally carries 70,000 vehicles a day, that's a lot of traffic/people which will have to use the already busy Kincardine Bridge or take the train (hellish alternative at the best of times!) Like Jack says I can see the shops/restaurants in Edinburgh and to a lesser extent Glasgow really suffer because of this. My husband was due to be going to a dinner in Edinburgh last night and it was decided to cancel it because of The Bridge situation.

I tried to shop in Kirkcaldy today
Drove there, but unable to park at 09:30 every space was taken, including the paid spaces
by commuters who had dumped their car and taken the train
Half of the travellers had to be left behind as the trains were full
Consequently no parking no customers in the shops
Tried the Bus, but they all arrived full coming down from St Andrews, I could not get on
It is the same at all the Railway towns
No locals able to travel to shop
Early travellers taken all the parking and busses
Some are complaining that they are paying as much in rail fare as they earn in the day
but can not stay off work for many reasons
Work and pay all the income in railfares end result travel two hours work nine no income
Stay off no income and most likely no job

                      Oh well quiet Christmas

I hope your allotment's on the right side of the bridge!

P.S. Think I read this morning that they're increasing the number of trains, so more parked commuters cars?

They are trying to increase the length of the trains, only they do not have any carriages
so are hoping to borrow some from England

                        I have problems tomorrow (Monday)
                        I am on Jury duty
I can drive there but unable to park
I can try and get the bus there, only if it is full and I can not get on it will be me
who is at the wrong side of the Court for contempt,
I am not prepared to pay for BnB, which it seems is the only way other than to
leave two hours early and walk about
