I have tried to post a picture but not sure how to do it or if it's worked- after heavy rainfall 2 days ago (which may be a coincidence) my outdoor tomato leaves have turned from lovely green and bushy to torn, streaked and sad. The leaves have pale cream streaks and small cream patches on them, as do the stems. The leaves are torn/eaten? and continue to tear more each time I look at them. What started on the older leaves now seems to have spread to all the leaves and stem. I have checked descriptions of common viruses and blight etc but they don't seem to describe this as there are no yellow patches, brown blotches etc. It is spreading like a virus but thankfully not into the greenhouse yet. Can anyone help?

Where are you and what sort of position have you got them growing in? It looks like wind and rain damage, if they are in containers is there any chance of of putting them somewhere a bit more sheltered.

Thanks for getting back - I am in London and they are in a very sheltered corner but the rain was particularly harsh - it's just a bit wierd that it seems to be getting worse each day since the rain. Do you know how to post a photo? I son't seem to be having much luck.

They do look they have had a battering, it does take a while for plants to recover, I think your's will. Last year I saw some tomato plants completely shredded by a hailstorm, so they are a bit tender.

Thank god - I was worried that I'd have to destroy them all if it was a virus. The internet is brilliant for researching stuff but fills you with fear about terrible tomato diseases!

    Anyway thanks again.

Sarah, your tomatoes look fine. The leaves have been battered by rain then scorched by the sun. That's how it looks to me. You are not going to eat the leaves, and it won't affect the tomato production, so try not to worry. All will be fine.
