Help needed finding my way around forum

Apologies if this is in the wrong place but could someone tell me how to keep tabs on a thread that I am interested in, for instance Roses? it was known as bookmarking on my previous site but I am not quite sure how to do it here. I seem to have set up an 'alert', is this the same thing? tia

 

Right hand top corner, "watch thread", you can also set Emails when that thread gets new posts.
