GC's admin. have kindly given me permission for this appeal which I thank them for. :)

Are there any members of GC with Swedish contacts that could help me trace a person on behalf of my brother please, the person lives in Linneryd in Sweden.

My brother is a racing pigeon enthusiast and currently has a bird in his loft of Swedish ownership. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a Racing Pigeon Association in Sweden and the bird is registered (ring information) in Germany. The British Racing Pigeon Association hasn't been able to help us with a trace.

We have the name of the owner and the birds registration information but no address and if someone could come up with that, perhaps via a telephone directory I would be very grateful. We also have a mobile phone number but unfortunately my brother hasn't been able to make contact on that, not being sure whether the number is functioning. If any member can help I will forward you the owners details via PM.

    Thanks all. :dbgrtmb:

          Thank you @Mad Hatter, I will send you a PM/Conversation. :)

Thanks @Spruce for the info, I will pass it on to my brother but he doesn't like computers so whether he'll join the forum I don't know. :)

P.S. I only looked at this thread because I thought 'Swedish trace' was either a bit of fishing tackle, or something to do with Tracey's swedish massage parlour in Scunthorpe.

Westwales...... I don't do Facebook but my other half has had a look around and there are to many names listed for the person I'm searching for, so we've given up on that one, thanks for the suggestion.

Scrungee.....Neither my brother or I can believe that the British Racing Pigeon Association hasn't got this address listed, thanks very much. My brother will be making contact and he will also be passing the address on to the British Association.

Meanwhile Mad Hatter has been very helpful and has managed to trace a home address for me, he may also make a phone call to the person in question tomorrow for me. I'm going to be in debt big style to him! :)

I'll keep you all posted about the outcome with the bird. :)

                    Hi Sheal

I bet he will say that your brother can keep it , as it will probably cost a bomb to send it back ££££

and to any one reading this no airmail jokes please .

Spruce.....Some of these pigeons are very valuable and if this bird falls into that category the owner will want it back. My brother has described it as a quality bird but of no great value but he can't be certain, some of these individual birds can cost tens of thousands of pounds! If he allows my brother to keep it, he will use it for breeding as he won't be allowed to race it.

Scrungee......That could be an expensive meal on that plate!

Jiffy.......If you're feeding the pigeons please stop and they should leave. :) On the other hand if you can capture them and get the details from their rings I should be able to help you find their owner. You're in the south-west, there's every possibility they are French birds brought here to fly home and couldn't make it across the channel perhaps through exhaustion. Birds are usually raced from north to south and they find their way home using the earths magnetic field, unless of course something has upset the birds flight, weather, predators etc.

I don't expect you to stop feeding the wild birds, the pigeons will remain with you while they have access to that food. :)

There is something you could try to get them to come to you, that's if the pigeons can remember the routine. Fanciers (the people that have racing pigeons) will often stand at there loft entrance if a bird is being stubborn to come in, with a box that has some grain in and shake it, quite often the bird will come down to it.

                            Hi Sheal

I used to keep racing pigeons many moons ago, amazing birds.
You can race the Sweden bird, but the ownership would have to be transferred to your brother 1st, any chance of a photo ?

I'll speak to my brother about a picture Spruce. :) Racing pigeon gear is all electronic now, no old fashioned ring clock that has to be taken to the local club, electronic entry pads are used on lofts now and it registers the birds as they enter, the time info etc. goes directly to computer, clever stuff!
