Lilies can abort flower buds for a number of reason, generally because something environmental has upset the plant. Can be a sudden change in temperature, or a change in watering or feeding pattern. Did you check the flower to see if there was any sign of an insect in there?
I have had it happen on some of mine, sometimes it's one of the later ones after the first buds have opened.
Are there any other buds coming? When was the bulb planted?

Hello NigelJ thanks for your reply,
I have not had any buds open.I bought the plant from Dobies, not as a bulb.
Watered as advised and planted as advised.
She looked as if she was going to flower but sadly nothing as you can see in the photos.
Do you think I should repot and compost and perhaps move to a different area in the garden? At the moment it is out the front of the house with afternoon sun.

I think I would move it somewhere sheltered and keep an eye on it water and feed as advised and should come again next year.

Sorry to keep on but should I cut it back?
If so when and how far above soil?

It will die back naturally in the late summer/autumn. It needs to keep going until then to build up the bulb for next year.

Am I alone in thinking that maybe it's affected by a virus? The leaves look a bit virus-y. If so, best to keep it well away from any other lilies you might have, Michael04. Apart from that, not a lot you can do...as Nigel says, put it somewhere sheltered and shady, keep it just damp until the leaves die off naturally, then wait and see what happens next year :)

@noisette47 You are probably right about it having a virus, the yellow in the leaves does look a bit that way.
