Hi, we have had a new turfed lawn laid about 10 weeks ago, the lawn has taken well although there are small patches where there appears to be almost a heather type of grass growing. I have a bitch (dog not spouse!) that unfortunately it is impossible to keep off the lawn, could this unusual grass be anything to do with the areas she "uses"?

What you have there is patches of grass that have started flowering. You need to just give it a mow, at a high setting to begin with.

Ah right, as simple as that. Thanks.

The recent hot weather seems to have triggered a lot of grass in lawns to go to seed.
It is no problem, but I would suggest giving the lawn a light rake before you mow it, to help the grass stand up so that you can cut the flowers off cleanly.
