Hi guys, I have a newish honeysuckle (bought and planted in a pot 3 weeks ago). It was fine until yesterday and has now wilted. The compost is wet, so has not dried out. It has been watered since it was planted. What have I done wrong?????????

I should add that it is a large pot and I want to train it to go over my 'rose' arch

All I can think is it has got too much sun. Honeysuckle is like Clematis - roots in shade, head in sun, so I've always been lead to believe...

Could you give it some protection from the rather strong sun we seem to be getting at the moment?

Ah! I wonder then if it's not the best thing to be trying to train up a 'rose arch' then. Should I move it to a shadier spot perhaps, or as you suggest, cover the root area with some broken pots.

My neighbour has a honeysuckle climbing all over a trellis arch and it is in full sun, but the roots are shaded by several (hideous looking!) laurels (he thinks they are bay trees though!).

Hopefully someone else will be along to advise...

Is it possible you have given it too much love and overwatered so that the roots have become waterlogged?

I found that tap water half kills my honeysuckle. I only have one water butt and I now save the water for that and my grapes.

Oh dear. Well, you could always try my patent 'wait and see' method. It might well recover. If not, give it an honourable burial on the compost heap and have another go with a new plant.
