    Hello everyone!!:D

I am growing leeks for the first time. I was told the best method was to sow them in pots & not to worry about thinning them out as that will be done when planting out.

I have looked on other Treads about leeks on this site, & people have said that leeks can be put out when they are the thickness of a pencil. My problem is, is that my leeks are no where near that thickness, & they do not appear to be growing anymore. The seeds were planted in pots at the end of March.

I do LOVE leeks, & i am hoping to grow lots of them. PLEASE HELP!!:help:

    Kind Regards

    Claire:)

Hmmmm .... they could do with being about 1" apart in the container you are growing them in.

If they are crammed in much thicker than that I would either thin them, or make a new pot of compost and painstakingly transplant them 1" apart. Compost should ideally be a min. of 4" deep

Other than that relax, they've got plenty of time, they are usually transplanted in June or July.

    Thankyou Kristen!!:D

I think I will transplant them!! They are no way near an inch apart, but they are in 4inch deep pots.

I will start transplanting tomorrow. I think I will put them in even deeper pots too!!

    Thankyou again!!!:gnthb:

Polystyrene fish box, or some sort of rectangular container like that, will do nicely (needs drainage holes).

Nothing wrong with pots, just they are circular, get deeper with extra diameter, and thus are subject to the law of diminishing returns if you have a lot of leeks ;)

I will see what I can transplant them into that's more productive than pots.

    Thanks again Kristen :thku:
