Has anyone come across a fruit called 'Jostaberry?'
Ive bought one but can find no information about it at all.
Its a cross between a gooseberry and a blackcurrant.
Any help from anyone will be most welcome on how to cultivate. When does it fruit? What ground does it like to be in? and how common is it? [/LIST]

    Thank you.

Although I have always 'gardened', it's only the past couple of years where I have been able to make it into a enjoyable hobby. I try to buy something a little different occationaly, and a recent visit to a Garden Centre in the wilds of Derbyshire, I found the Jostaberry.. hopefully it makes enjoyable eating as I do enjoy both gooseberroes and blackcurrants

We have a Worcesterberry which is the same cross. They are extremely spiny plants. Pruning is the same as for Gooseberries, ie on short spurs. The fruit is large black gooseberries and sweet and birds adore them.

    [IMG] Hi Tony,
Hope the links helped. They sound a very interesting plant. You must do a post next year to show us the fruit & tell us what it tastes like, & of course whether it is a good cropper. Good Luck. [IMG]

    Hi
Jostaberries -grow like a blackcurrant -but leave 6 feet between plants.I understand it to be resistant to mildew and very prolific.
They should be ready for cropping about july time- expect the berries to be about twice the size of a blackcurrant.
    MMM,
let us know how you get on,
    Regards
    sandedge
