help!

Has anybody any ideas what this might be. I planted it but it has lost its label. They are log roots/rizhome type thing with growth of deep cut strong red tinged leaves sprouting out the top.

You could be right, I had some in a pot last year and I guess I turfed it out and replanted it not remembering what had been in the pot... age does wonderful things for your memory !!
