Are there any no no combinations of herbs that cannot be grown together? I heard something in passing once on the telly that certain types can not be grown near others. I know to keep mint contained, i'm growing some and i'm also growing chives, would like to have a couple more but thought i should check this out first.

[IMG] I was intrigued about that many years ago Persephony.. I used to companion plant in planters & beds whenever I could.. . Depending on how big your container is, here are some herb combinations that will all grow well together as companions in pots:

    1) Sage, rosemary, lavender, thyme and germander.

    2) Coriander Leaf ~(Cilantro), oregano, lemon balm and basils.

    3) Oregano, thyme, lemon verbena, lemon balm, parsley, Coriander leaf (Cilantro).

    4) Thyme, mint, basil, oregano.

    5) Growing basil in the same container (or bed) as tomatoes will improve their flavor.

A few herbs, like dill and fennel, need quite a bit more room and grow better in beds. Most herbs, however, adapt very well to pots and containers. You might also consider scented germaniums, tricolor sages and trailing herbs like penny royal, prostrate rosemary or catmint for hanging baskets.

[IMG] Hope that is of some help..
