Well the wind is getting very very blustery here today (South Deryshire); I've just been out and moved some pots in to more sheltered areas of the garden before the plants get damaged.

My potatoes have all but been flattened already; luckily that's not too much of a problem as they are ready to be dug up; in fact we had some for tea last night - yum..

Unfortunately the raspberries are taking a battering, a few short branches laden in fruit have already snapped off..:cry3:

Anyway apparently the winds are set to be worse tomorrow, especially the further north and west you are; unseasonably strong gusts up to 70mph causing damage to trees etc...are possible..

Amber alert now for tomorrow...With trees in full leaf making things worse.Branches and trees are expected to be damaged in the North.Watch those lightweight greenhouses and poly tunnels if you live up there...I'd tie them down if you can.

Although we don't have such strong winds as you (about 30 mph at the moment) I'm concerned about the gazebo we borrowed and have erected for our open weekend :rolleyespink:.

It's about 3m x 6m and quite heavy and took four of us to erect it. I'm here on my own today so can't take it down. It came with weights for the legs but as the structure is quite heavy and they hadn't forecast strong winds down here we didn't fit them .

The footplates for the uprights are supposed to slot into the weights which are about 30lb each. I've stood them on the edge of the footplates and hope they will hold. 30lb deadweight may not seem a lot to move around but with my bad back it wasn't easy :cry3: - especially as there are six of them.

I'll just have to keep an eye on things and hope for the best. I've just checked the forecast and it says the wind will rise for the next couple of hours and tail off to 10 mph after that - but pick up again for a few hours in the morning. :dunno:

    Fingers crossed :)

Yeap.. In the Vale I can report we are getting some nasty gusts already.
My four hanging baskets are back in the conservatory as the wind will play havoc with the new plants.

Batten down the hatches lads and lasses and crack open the grog.

Yep, here we go again. We're being promised a force 9 here tonight and tomorrow morning. It's been windy here for the last three weeks, but not this bad.

Shiney, just an idea........Could you not throw ropes over it and peg it down like you would a tent.

We've come home a day early from a holiday in Norfolk (I feel for you drought-ridden gardeners there) because we didn't want to be towing a caravan in 70mph gusts!
A bit apprehensive as we are high up and very exposed here. The plants will have to fend for themselves; it's the house I'm worried about!

We're having some rest-bite at the moment, it seems to have almost blown itself out.....for now, hopefully it's not the lull before the storm....no more damage since this moring thankfully...

Like has been mentioned though even before this windy spell it's not really been calm for a while to be honest. I'm holding back on putting pots of peppers and cucumbers out on the patio for the time being.

Did read that there's the possibilty of some very warm/hot weather as we move in to June, hopefully then things will calm down??

I'm not far from you and the wind has dropped...but I've floored all my hanging baskets just in case.It was strong enough to tip over a shrub in a big pot this morning though.
