    a plastic heron! :D
No, honestly - it's meant to work! Alternatively, a highly expensive electronic system of wires, and things that make lots of noise when it lands. I prefer the plastic heron, myself! :D

    roders,
the plastic heron works ok, used one a few years ago where I worked, seemed to do the job.

A Game keeper also works well!!!

At the gardens I used to work at, there was a big pond with big fish, and as soon as a heron was spotted, all the men would rush over towards the pond, yelling and waving their hats! Mad - and I don't know how well it worked!! I was too busy laughing!! (I was a volunteer, so didn't feel morally obliged to join in! :D )

If I can get round to setting my PC up I thought I might try animation on it! I could do gleaming red eyes as he is.... This was from a series at one of the rescue centres.

I've had the same problem and fabricating a round or flat piece of metal angled at between 30 and 45 degrees so that it goes out over the pond and the other end pushes in the ground. Then on the underside weld 3or4 small nuts on each piece of metal, then thread line through all of the holes.
This works as herons wade into water rather than flying in and landing on the water.
    Best of luck
