You now have a customer @Palustris :) Can't wait to get the delivery!

I'm in chapter three with the story of Sork the Vole and Mr Boris Pinot- Grigio, the hedgehog. Sork has just learnt martial arts (well, nearly, yoga almost counts) and has been almost eaten twice within the first three chapters. I'm not sure how to break it to Sork that his friend and greatly admired protector Mr Pinot- Grigio is not exactly a vegan.

A scene involving earthworms is needed. Poor Bill The Earthworm!

My copy arrived today. Still a big thrill even after as many books as I have done.

I ordered my book on Sunday and it arrived on Tuesday afternoon.

I have a grave complaint I'm afraid. The book was too short! I finished it on Tuesday night

What a lovely, old fashioned tale! I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot, so peaceful and communal and traditional.

The best part to me was that all characters were kind and likeable. The antagonist witch didn't do anything too bad and the magic element somehow sat naturally in the rural community background- no flashy hexes, rituals or illusions, just ordinary matter-of-fact situation where a witch is part of the community. The reading experience was reassuring and relaxing with just the right amount of excitement. :)

The plot was strong and the pace just right. A very enjoyable read!

I'm interested in the illustrations, some were drawings, some looked like a montage and there was even a photo of the horse pond. The mix was interesting and even though I didn't like some of them the overall effect and the pacing between the text worked very well.

@Palustris , can you please tell more about the illustrations? And thank you for the book :)

The illustrations are all courtesy of https://pixabay.com/ Although I do mess around with them and join two or more together to get the image I want. Wish I could draw the images myself though.
Glad you enjoyed the read. There are a fair number of stories centred round the Witch of the Dark Forest. Not all of them have been published yet. I am luck in that my eldest edits the stuff for me and does all the typesetting etc. Serves him right for doing the first one as a Christmas present a few years back.
Hope you manage to complete your manuscript. If you get the chance look at the Feggy Wood stories. They are like the one you describe.
