I have a question for any pundit of the flower world. I took the photograph below but did not get the name of the flower, can anyone help out with its name and any snippet of info they might have in connection with its lineage Thanks Rory
Welcome to g c Rory, looks like a scabious they are close relatives of teasel, grows wild in britain an import from russia in the 1800s know commonly as sheep bit, many cultivated forms now in different colours.
Hi Rory welcome to the forum. I'm far from great on what's what in the garden the only thing I can come up with is a cornflower  I'm sure someone will come along and put you out of your misery so to speak! :D Helen.xxx.
Hi Rory and welcome to GC. Afraid I can't help either but someone will. May I suggest that you post a photo of a leaf? It is often easier to identify a leaf than a flower.
Hello Rory and welcome to GC. To confuse the issue, I think it looks like a Stokesia laevis (Stokes' Aster), which is lilac coloured or possibly Superba which is a lavender colour. If it is indeed this, it is an evergreen, border perennial, 30-45cm tall, blooming from July-October. The leaves are long and narrow. It is very similar to Centaurea dealbata 'Steenbergii' (Cornflower as Helen suggested) but that it usually white centered and reddish pink. A closer look at the leaves may help.
Hi Rory, welcome to GC. I don't pretend to be an expert but I just googled Stokesia laevis that LOL suggested and it looks a pretty fair match to me.
There you go Rory there's always someone here in the know and only too happy to help you out! Helen.xxx.
