Welcome to GC Gaz. We need more people to teach that tropicals are not difficult. Enjoy.

The tropical look isnt a difficult one to achieve. There are increasingly more hardy palms to choose from as well as other subtropical plants that can cope with low temperatures.

There are also so many hardy plants that will give the tropical look. The victorians loved the tropical theme, and many of their introductions are great (and often hardy) plants.

Sorry. Didn't realise it was a competition. Thought it was a co-operation. :D

Hi Gaz - nice to see more and more fans of palms and tropicals on here. Mine isn't so much tropical as Mesozoic, but I have a few palms, ferns and a cycad (with a few seeds I'm trying to germinate). Do you have any photos of your garden?

Hi, I have some photos here http://www.pbase.com/edgegallery/gazmark

Its a fairly young garden, so very much a work in progress. The major landscaping should be finished this year - building supplies are due to be delivered next Monday.

Great photos - looks as though most things have only recently gone into the ground. Have you happily kept things in pots for some time? I only rent so everything has to stay in a pot for the time being.

Hi, the planting has been over the last 2 and a half years. I hadnt particularly kept plants in pots for much time before planting.

I have too many bamboo varieties to give them all space, so unfortunatly many of those will have to stay in pots.

The agaves and arid plants will also largely remain in pots so they can be moved to the greenhouse over winter. Some of the hardier ones prefer to stay dry over winter so i build a rain shelter over them.

Welcome to GC Gaz, an impressive collection, I wish I had the ground to plant all my palms.
