Hi from clueless gardener from West Sussex by the sea!

Hi all

Am new to forum and completely new to gardening. Last year we bought a house in need of total renovation largely on the grounds of its lovely position and large garden.

The garden really is a blank canvass - despite it being a '50s house almost nothing has been done to it over the years apart from perimeter trees and hedges etc. The garden surrounds the house though most is on the southern side. Our priorities are 1. peaceful relaxation area for grown ups. 2. Adventure / safe play area for son who's 15 months 3. Decorative wow factor as you enter the drive.

This is our 'forever' house where we will raise our family and move only to the cemetery or nursing home! So the garden is a long term project, one I want to get right.

I really can't stress how little I know about gardening - I can cut the grass and I know not to water plants in direct sunlight and that's it! I've just bought 3 books and am reading avidly! but clearly this forum looks great - far better than the five or six others I Googled.

So I'll shortly be bombarding with loads of questions...
