    Hi Folks,

I live in the Scottish Borders, and I'm like you, having problems with bugs. I've been looking how to deal with Gooseberry sawfly, last year it had the whole bush, and I don't want that to happen this year. My question is this has anyone used Nemasys Grow your own!?

    :ThankYou:

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner:sign0016:

I never thought about it but I didn't have sawfly problems again after I netted to stop Mr Blackbird eating them.

That's not illegal under the EU pesticide laws either, as you're only using it as a prophylactic and not a killer:dbgrtmb:

Quick update on the efficacy of the foxglove leaves - it works! Nowhere near the decimation levels seen before but like comfrey in a bucket, the liquid stinks. Really, really badly...

            Hello and welcome Kelly:)

I had a goosegog bush that went from lush green to barron and dead looking in literally a weekend because of those sawfly things. I didn't know what it was at the time though. Its now 3 years since that happened, and the goosegog bush is alive and green again (it took a full year off, then slowly started to recover) but still isn't flowering. It was a productive bush before it was attacked. I think it has literally started again so should start producing maybe next year or the year after (I think they're usually at least 3 year old before they build up the strength to produce fruit).

Definitely best to catch it early before total decimation.

I think I'd put a cautionary note on there. Foxgloves leaves are extraordinarily toxic. I believe one leaf contains enough poison to stop a healthy grown man's heart. I know lots of toxic things are used in lots of applications, so with care it is probably fine, but I'd just take care when stewing highly toxic leaves and then spraying the juice about.

I'd agree with that, I ate the end 2-3 mm of a Foxglove leaf tip and I was up all night with palpitations, very strong stuff.:yikes:

I think it was just last night. I got a cryptic message last niht about the Sunny D having run out or something, next thing nobody could get an answer off him so Armandii snook into the office and nicked the hobnobs before he woke up.
