Hey all, My name's Matt and I'm from the West Midlands, I have been trying to grow stuff for a few years now (probably 2 or 3 years pre pandemic) and found I have quite the love for it. But honestly I am completely winging it and probably lucking out a lot of the time :D I have an allotment which I have been digging out an immense amount of weeds and overlaying with horse much ready for this year. I have some onions and garlic growing with a rhubarb plant in there somewhere. At home I have numerous small trees ranging from cherry trees, apple trees and plum trees with about 6 or 7 fruit bushes, hopefully my 30 odd strawberry plants that I cultivated from last year should provide me some fun this year! As for plants and flowers, we have a fair few roses that come out lovely each year, we have a couple of camellia's (though I think one died over the winter and i'm not entirely sure why) a couple of acers, some peony's and fuscia's and the like so we grow and try almost everything. I thought i'd find somewhere that I can actually learn things like how to take cuttings, the correct way to germinate seed's etc so that's how I have ended up here So hi and look forward to speaking to you all soon!
Hi @Luseth and Your garden sounds gorgeous, looking forward to you posting some pics.....yep we so love having a nosey around other people's gardens
Honestly I think it's a mess, one of my downside's is I'm not very good at the design aspect so placing plants / flowers in the right place in the beds etc :D (We also have a dog that urinate's on the grass which has made it quite patchy however as the dog's got a special place for us (won't go into it now) we would never get rid so maybe down the road I need to get rid of the grass ^_^ I also keep starting jobs and running out of funds to finish them :D When flowers start to properly come through I will get some photos up though
Welcome to the forum! My style of gardening is to plunk things in where I want them and I don't really coordinate much at all. The only thing that is important is to put the tall stuff at the back and be kind to your plants. That saying about beauty being in the eye of the beholder is very true when it comes to your garden
Welcome to Gardeners Corner Matt. For somebody that says they've been winging it for a few years you've certainly got a lot going on, so you must be doing something right.
I'm hopeless at planning and colour combinations...if there's a space to fill then I fill it. My biggest downfall is my inability to get the heights right.....is it my fault or do the plants misbehave and grow taller that they're suppose to...I'll stick with this theory!!
