Good morning guys. I've recently moved me and my new family into a brand new house with rear and front gardens. Rather exciting moving up from a concrete yard! I am keen to get into gardening, but forgive my ignorance when it comes to terminology and description. All got to start somewhere though. I have a few questions to start. Front garden has a lawn with small border area. Lawn is currently mingled with weeds so was looking for advice on the best lawn weed killer, best way to apply and time of year to do it? This garden also has a border which is hit by shade up until around 5-6pm in the summer. What kind of easy to maintain flowers can I plant in these borders. Nothing too vigorous as I have a hedge that surrounds it. Again, what's the best time of year to do it, best compost to use etc? Look forward to hearing from people. Welcome to GC Budgecore7. We're a friendly lot here and we'll be happy to answer your questions. It would be best to put them in 'General Gardening Discussion' as you are most likely to get a reply there.
Hi Budgecore .. If you post your questions in General Gardening & Lawns section you will get a good response..
The best weed-killer is Roundup by far! It's easy to use as well. You may have to put some more grass seed down though if your lawn is too sparse afterwards from all of the weeds. My garden isn't too big either but I had a weed problem so I know how you feel.
Welcome to the forum Budgecore7 Congrats on the house move with a garden to play with First off, get a compass out and see which way your garden "faces" (if one part isn't getting summer sun until 5-6pm, my guess would be that part is almost west or north facing and would need to be planted with shade loving plants. But, I'm a novice gardener too, so, I'm sure others with more experience will be able to offer sage advice.
Hi BC, Welcome to Gardeners Corner . Don't worry about terminology, we don't!!! One Gardener's Tomato is another's Tamatoe but we usually understand what the other is say. We have gardeners of differing experience, from outright beginners, experienced gardeners, and the specialists and they all very friendly and more than willing to pass on the benefit of their expertise and experience.
