Mention was made of this on another thread, but having just used some of these for the first time, I thought I would bring them to others attention.

Some time ago, I needed a set of anvil cutters to tame the buddleia (that was), so I invested in one of these and one of these from Wolf Garten. Long story short, they did the job remarkably easily and felt to be of such a good construction that I then headed out and got one of these Dutch Hoe attachments - fantastic bit of kit.

More recently, I was frustrated at not being able to reach the upper floor windows at the front of the house to clean them, so went looking for window cleaning tools and lo-and-behold, I found that they also did window washers and wipers/squeegees, so I bought them too.

I have just used the window tools, firstly on the kitchen window as a test, and then latterly on the greenhouse inside and out. Having the ability to switch between the telecopic pole and the short handle made a potentially gutty job into one that was relatively easy, and the greenhouse now looks fantastic (it was green and grimy after our long damp winter).

I used this window cleaning fluid, and only needed around 15-20ml in my bucket of warm water to do the entire greenhouse!

I'd highly recommend all of the above to everyone - not cheap, admittedly, but you do definitely get what you pay for.

Is it sad that I am looking forward to cleaning my windows now???

It is good, however looking at your website (yes, I couldn't resist a peek!) you appear to be making some fine quality tools.

The moral of the story all round, I think, is that you get what you pay for.

That's exactly why we started the business! I'm afraid the big sheds just started to stock cheap throwaway tools. I had an interesting conversation with a manager of one of the largest shed chains. He informed me that their budget range was "total C@@p, but you'll be amazed at the volume we sell".

But what I was amazed at was the volume they replace. We seem to live in a throw away society now. Also the government are trying to meet tough reductions in green house gasses targets. But until the trend of producing poor quality items is addressed, I fear we have no chance of meeting said targets. Also worth pointing out, the price I ask for say a spade is only around circa £8 - £10 more than the budget range. But the main difference is, its built to last! So where's the false economy?

I often run specials on selected tools, but I'm a bit scared to offer it here for you guy's :nonofinger:

Run the offers past the admin team, or webmaster, then you will know what you can and can't do. There is nothing to be scared of on GC - my impression is that the admin team are the best and fairest I have come across, and as long as you play decently, you will remain a lifelong member.

I agree with you about some of the rubbish that is turned out by the big sheds; I bought a spade from a well known supermarket, snapped the second year I owned it; I then bought a good quality, branded replacement, and the difference was immense - - I hadn't realised just how much the poor design and the poor material quality had been making my life harder in the garden.

I should have known better really; years ago, a Stanley screwdriver saved my life. I was installing an aerial distribution system in a friends house, and a plasterboard wall needed a wee hole knocked through for a cable - my large flat bladed screwdriver was just the ticket as a chisel would have been too big, and after all it was only plasterboard.

A couple of taps on the back of the screwdriver with the palm of my hand and..............

              BANG!

Apparently there was a two gang mains socket on the other side of the wall that had been installed without any backbox - my screwdriver went right through and smacked into the back of it causing a dead short. The end of the screwdriver was absolutely mullered - melted beyond any reasonable use. I swear to this day, had that been an el cheapo, out of a big shed, screwdriver I would have been completely buggered.

I totally agree, what gets me is not only the way the stuff is put together, but also the quality of the metal.

Awesome to meet you Mr. Fat Controller! can you add people as friends in here? *whispers quietly* if you ever need anything make sure you ping me

Greatly appreciated - and nice to meet you too :) I sincerely hope that you get as much out of GC as you put in, and more. I believe you can 'follow' people, although I am not too sure what doing so actually does.

You will notice before too long (if you haven't already) that most GC members are on here almost daily, and are basically one big happy family. Never before have I been on a forum where I would even consider letting someone else have my address, let alone have mail and emails from fellow members just for the sake of keeping in touch.

I am sure your venture will do well - I have a feeling that slowly, but surely, we are coming out of the 'Tesco' age where we are conditioned into buying a new whatever or other each year. An increasing number of people seem to be going back down the lines of quality, and that can only be good in my book.
