I'd like to look into indoor scented plants with flowers. Any ideas? I know literally nothing about tropical plants but i would love some if its an option? It would be fun to grow from young as well.

My hosue smells of animals and insense sticks arent very good for little noses so this would be lovely! :D

Whiley wrong time of year for tropical plants light levels not very good but you can grow bulbs in pots that give off nice scents this time of year try hyacinths or narcissus crocus for a more subtle scent

[IMG] Have a look around for Jasmin ( Stephanotis floribunda ) plants.. You often find them in the supermarkets & florists at this time for Christmas.. They are usually wound around circular shaped wires.. They give off a heavenly scent.. Just keep looking!! Have a look at this link Whiley it is a start..

Take inspiration from the house deodorants : jasmin, rose, magnolia, lavender etc. and then in case you consider eliminating the smell from the source you should watch the programme "how clean is your house?" which is on channel 4 on wed evening and it gives you easy to follow and effective advise on how to eliminate the various odours.

try gardenia. it's a type of jasmin. it's famous for it's incredibly scented flowers...where one flower can fill a room with it's scent. i found it hard to believe till i went down to the garden centre. i could smell it when i went near the houseplants section. the scent led me too it. it has the most stunning and delicious scent a flower could ever offer you.

Whiley - another suggestion that works for me, as well as jasmine, or stephanosus - is a plug in ioniser. You just leave it plugged in, and it consumers animal and smoker smells. Check out QVC where I got mine. They work for me.

Or if you are a bit short of cash for the plug in ones, then a lot of shops sell some really cheap free standing ones that give off nice smells.I have one in use at the moment which smells like Lily of the valley, though I also use the plug in ones.Just make sure you don't let them run dry

There have been a number of scares re plug-in air fresheners and ionisers. Some manufactures are saying its all nonsense and an "urban legend" created by geeks on the internet. However, the London Fire Brigade has warned against some. See

i wouln't feel comfortable leaving one plugged in.

[IMG] I also have concerns about plug in air-freshners.. The fire risk, yes, but what else are they pumping out into your room...
;) It is difficult to mask animal smells anyway... Surely burning some essential oils in a proper burner would be nicer... Or what about some bowls of Pot Purea placed strategically... Whiley I know it is had for you to get around & it must drive you mad at times when you can smell the animals, but it is the time of year when ALL animal owners, are aware they have them... What can you do, when they are coming in all wet & with dirty feet...?? Just keep looking for plants you like that will live in your environment, most plants, flowering or not "clean the air" a little bit, so fill your window sills with plants.. There are of course the flowering bulbs appearing in the shops now as well & you always have the old standby then of the Hyacinths & Narcissii... Good luck with your quest.... What about the old fashioned idea og sticking cloves in an orange.. If hung near warmth they give off a lovely smell.... A tip. Prick orange skin with a cocktail stick first then push the cloves in... Dates back to Elizabethan times I think...!! [IMG] There run out of ideas. Hope some of these help..... :D

Spider plants are supposed to be good for cleaning the air. I have never used artificial air fresheners of any kind as I am suspicious of all the chemicals they contain.
Better a nice smelly plant any day [IMG]

My mother threw out all her spider plants because she heard they gave out a chemical used for embalming! I use an oil burner when necessary. I hate spray freshners as they smell awful, I had one once that reminded me of Dyralite (which led to the feelings associated with that medicine)!
