My name's Lucy, and I'm a complete gardening noob! (I see a different Lucy joined a few days ago, sorry for making things difficult ) I recently acquired my first house with a front and a back garden, and I'm on a quest to get both gardens exactly how I want them! My house is a 1949-build, 2 bedroom semi-detached in a small village in central Fife, Scotland. The Hardiness/Climate zone is 8b, and according to the UK Soil Observatory my soil is (probably) "sandy clay loam" with a ph of between 5 and 6. The front garden is medium-sized, and faces North-North-West; the much larger back garden faces South-South-East, sits on a slope, and soaks up a lot of south-facing sunshine. It also has a "summer house" (not quite a green house), which may come in handy! Both gardens are (currently) mainly laid to lawn, and have some well established shrubs. Ideally I want to split the space in the back garden to include a wee kitchen garden with some edibles and herbs, but keep the front garden as a decorative space. My Mum was always the one with the 'green fingers', but I've never done much beyond helping out a little. I'm joining this forum in the hopes of being able to pick a few brains on my gardening journey!
