My local store is having a clearance. As well as non-gardening bargains (serious reductions on heavy duty baking tins, assorted padlocks, door chimes) there are assorted outdoor bits and pieces at vastly reduced prices (kids outdoor games, outdoor dining), and a few gardening odds and ends, including posh duck egg blue coloured tins that are imitation Burgon & Ball (though not sure the bulb one is a good idea).

Didn't see anything of note instore yesterday [1] when I picked up a few bags of slate chippings for elderly neighbours, but although priced at £5.99 online I'd seen they were £3.98 in one store a few days and £3.49 in another store yesterday.

[1] But I did see all their bags of building sand were reduced from £1.98 to £1 each.

Are they about to change their name from Homebase?

I think so. They've kicked out the concession of Habitat and Argos in my local one so something must be imminent

They're in the process of getting rid of Argos from nearby Homebase, which was very handy for collecting Argos & ebay orders as it's out of town and always easy to find parking spaces.

Loads of Argos stuff at that branch has been reduced in a clearance sale of about 1,500 items.

Argos is being absorbed by sainsburys I think.

                    Homebase reduction chaos.....

I picked up a pack of artichoke roots for planting. The young woman on the customer services checkout said, 'Oh, these are coming up as 10p.' So of course I went back to get some more, and several other packs of garlic cloves, none of which were marked down on the shelf edge. The woman by this time was deep in a phone call trying to resolve a customer's problem, a queue had built up and 2 more checkouts had opened. So I went through one of these with my armful of bargains. T'was not to be. The guy on the till said they were full price. It turns out that '10P' is a code on their system that means 'not to be restocked'. I negotiated my artichokes for £1 a pack.

Both checkout operators are quite experienced. I've seen the young woman in there for a while and they wouldn't let anyone on customer services who doesn't have a good grasp of likely issues. But it makes me wonder about some of the bargains I've bought previously from Homebase!

In the absence of reduced price stickers so they go through as 'non-standard', items not on their systems at Tesco and Wilko go through at 1p.

I wrote to Bunnings. Our Homebase will change but nobody knows when. I haven’t noticed any great changes yet.

Think it was Australians who bought Homebase. I could have told them they were making a big mistake:rolleyespink:. Certainly in these parts you needed you head examining to use their dreadful stores. From memory I have only bought 1 item from Homebase in the last 20 odd years and that was a potato peeler which was slightly damaged so cost pennies......quite a good peeler tho and still going strong! They were quite good many moons ago but appears the likes of B and Q /Wickes took over their share of the market.

I used to use Homebase because they used to issue nectar points. I lost interest when they stopped. Since then B&Q have opened a massive out of town superstore. It’s next to Matalan and Argos and close to PC World and various other shops. There is masses of parking.
