Looks like the Homebase takeover to Bunnings has come to an end .I have not seen a Bunnings store . The Wigan Homebase converted to a huge B & M bargains with a garden centre - must pay it a visit . I understand B & Q are struggling as well , what has happened to the great DIY movement ? We must all live in grubby hovels now :snorky:

Selling Trying to sell stuff like this can only add to their woes. 'Only' £325 including seat cushions not shown. It was over £350 but is on special offer at the moment.

When we first saw them instore Mrs Scrungee thought they were left over from a delivery and asked if we could have them for firewood.

All the pension funds that own all the commercial property across Britain are facing a meltdown. High street shopping is finished across most parts of Britain.

(Wealthier areas are still doing well which is good for diversity.)

This could all be reversed easily but no one really cares.

B&Q have closed one store in Altrincham and another in Stretford.
The Homebase in Altrincham should have benefited from the B & Q closure, but it never seems very busy.

I think a lot of the problem is that younger generations don't have the ability to do any DIY or can afford not to have to do it. So sales of DIY materials are fewer.

          Then there's on-line purchases, particularly e-Bay.

Looking through my recent purchases on e-Bay which formerly I might have bought at a DIY/Gardening store.

          Stella cherry tree.
          Iron sulphate.
          Paper trimmer blades.
          Batteries.
          Bath mats.
          Low voltage halogen lamps.
          Cabinet bolts.
          Hand tacker staples.
          Low voltage lamp holders.

          All with free postage.

Homebases are now selling off all their summer picnic stuff at knock down prices and have increased their price of coal by 30%.

The sooner they clear out all the Westfarmers appointed managers who still don' t understand UK weather is 6 months out of sync with Australia the better.
