Hi there, i'm new to the forum and would dearly love some advice regarding my honeysuckle plants. I'm afraid i don't know the variety (they came with the house/garden when we bought it 4 years ago. The first two summers, they flowered beautifully and were long lasting.

Last summer although the plants developed a huge amount of flowers, as they opened (and even before), they died off which was very disappointing. I put this down to the large amount of rain that we had last year, but now it looks like a similar thing is happening this year. It's not just one plant, but all three that I have in my garden :(

Apart from this the plants all look very healthy.....lots of green leaves, and of course the promise of loads of blooms....BUT!!!!! Any thoughts please? It just seems such a shame. Last summer not one flower developed, they all just died and dropped. I want to stop this now!!!!!

Has something else shaded them out, honeysuckle needs full sun to flower. in woodlands you see lots of its foliage on the woodland floor, but it only flowers when it reaches the top of a tree.

Hi, Thaks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll find this site really useful as I'm fairly new to this gardening malarky!!! In answe to your question, no, none of the honeysuckle plants are in shade. They get plenty of sunlight, and seem to be thriving, except for the darned flowers dying off before they get a chance to open.
They seem to be the proper colour, but almost overnight (or so it seems) the individual flowers seem to take on an orangy/rust sort of tint and then drop off.
It seems such a shame when there has been the promise of spectacular flowering from each of the plants.

    Welcome to the forum Gladdycat.
I think I'm at odds with Ziggy here.
My Honeysuckle never needed sun to flower. In fact they seemed to love to be in damp, shady places - sitting in dark corners, flowering and scenting the air all around.
Is your honeysuckle too out in the open ? Are the buds and flowers getting frazzled before they get a chance to flower ?
    See what others think.
