Hi folks. We planted into a large pot a Honeysuckle which is placed in a fairly sunny spot. Not long after (maybe a month or so) it started to develop mildew ? (white powdery stuff). At first this was restricted to the existing foliage but it`s now affecting new growth also. Many of the leaves have now fallen and it looks a bit sick. I also had the same problem at my last home with Honeysuckle, the leaves would drop just before flowering and that would be it until later in the year or the following year before leaves would re-grow. So, can someone please tell me what I need to do to overcome this. Cheers...freddy.

Almost certainly one of the Powdery Mildews. There are many but usually one type for a given genus of plants. All are encouraged by damp humid conditions and/or dryness at the plants roots.

Apply an appropriate fungicide according to the manufactures instructions.

Freddy, you have to remember, honeysuckle is a woodland plant, it prefers dappled shade to sunlight. And, as plantsman says, treat with a systemic fungicide. :thumb:

A woodland plant ? I never knew that. The thing is, the one I had at my last house was more or less in permanent shade (being in a north facing spot) and the problem was exactly the same which is why I assumed it would like a more sunny aspect. Anyway, I`ll give the fungicide a go, cheers folks.....freddy.

Powdery Mildew is always present in the air but usually only attacks plants that are stressed - ie unhappy. You can address the mildew with a fungicide, but you ought to consider the cause of the stress as well. Quite often is is from being too dry as the others have said.

Hi guys. I take on board what you say about `dappled` Dai ;) Hopefully in the non too distant future I can give it such a spot. As for watering PeterS, I`m pretty sure it`s been looked after in that respect (by us), but it WAS bought from B&Q ! :( Thanks for the replies btw. Cheers...freddy.
