I found one of these lurking amongst the nettles in the garden and dug it up and moved it to the top of our Cornish hedge. I had to plant it on its side because the soil was not overly deep but it has settled in well due to the damp weather we have been having. Although it has strong new shoots the old wood is bare, would it help to prune it back in the autumn? Would this make more shoots grow lower down? [IMG]

I cut them back after flowering and give them some food in spring, other than that I leave them to it. I think I'd be tempted to leave well alone until it next flowers - I'm certainly no expert on them but I guess it's already had one shock this season. Though they are pretty resilient.

Does anyone know if training horizontally would result in further shoots from those that are growing already?
