We have a little field at the back of our house, about an acre. The council have moved on today with a metal shed, 2 trucks and 2 diggers, and have already removed half the hedge. It makes me very sad to see more and more of our greenery & hedges going. There's hedgehogs and birds and all sorts living in that field, aside from the pretty view it gives us and somewhere the dogs can wander :_(
Typical of the council we are going to end up with very little landscape for our wild life and pleasure. they just have to build on every spare little bit of land they can get their hands on. my thoughts are with you jay, you probably feel like moving after losing that little bit of open land behind you. :( :(
So sorry to hear about that Jay. They knocked down one bungalow opposite us and now there are five. Makes me so cross that they are putting so many house up. It wont be a "green and pleasant land" for much longer if they dont stop soon. Where I live was a small village when we came here in 1976. Cant recognise it now, so many estates built and they say come and live in the country. BUT THEYVE CONCRETED IT ALL OVER
That's one of reasons why we moved to Cornwall, Sheffield was getting closer and closer. Any patch of land had a housing estate built on it whether it was school playing fields or the childrens play areas. They were supposed to leave the native hedges but 'accidently' reversed into them with their diggers and had to dig them up because they were damaged! There are enough usable brown sites around there so why not use them?
Sorry to hear this jay..We have 5 fields at the back of us which used to be farmed but they are now rented out for horses..But i think at some stage they will build on them i have often seen men come and take photos of them from the side of me..I guess its just a matter of time !! fortunately i wont be here then or else i would get stress big time !!If you think you are going to be able to see whatever they are putting their then get a hedge up now a thick dense one to block the view and to give the birds somewhere to nest..
LEICESTER is getting as bad , they built out of shopping complex and the crafty council linked it all to the next village. in the same patch opposite the new police headquarters is a very large field ,now guess what, council are going to put a park n ride at the cost of 6 million. we now have no green belt. at the back of my garden acres of allotments, only some are active. so I can now see they will decide upon to build on there. my poor cats will not be able to go walkabouts. :D :D
It's not just 'up-country'. The rumour is that the field behind my house might be sold to build houses. As if it's not bad enough that they erected a Tetra mast nearby without planning permission, now I will have to look at houses I could never afford in a month of Sundays. None will be 'affordable' or social housing and most will probably be second homes only inhabited for 3 weeks of the year Meanwhile, Cornwall is dying on it's feet with the lowest wages in the country and some of the highest house prices It will take a miracle for my children to ever get on the housing ladder and I'm resigned to the fact they will have to leave the county of their birth and all they have ever known in order to make anything of themselves :( Meanwhile, the A30 improvements are being done by Polish people.....GGGGRRRRR! This rant was brought to you by WindyMiller.com
Well I found out that the council sold the land to a housing company in February, hmmm... anyway I rang them and they assured me they wont be building on it (thank god) but are using it to store bathroom & kitchen equipment in for their new houses, only temporarily apparently. Thats not too bad, BUT for that we lose half a field of grass, small trees and hedgerows to tarmac, mud and a few ugly 12' metal sheds. The best bit is that I was told we were all going to be written to to let us know what they're doing - thanks, after the fact is a bit late to object... :( Anyway that's one of my pet hates for this country, all the disappearing greenbelt and our wonderful countryside and ecosystems, for affordable *choke* and/or 'needed' housing....
jay..look at the planning under your local council as you can normally see their whats being done..It does seem to be a lot of mess just to store things in....I totally agree with you all and the way things are going we will just be concrete jungles..Even if the council do plant things in the citys idiots come and destroy them..the council by me turned a cricket fields into a nature reserve the other side of the road they planted native trees scattered wildflower seeds and some idiots keep lifting motorbikes over the fence and riding on the flowers..so the residents are complaining about the noise and i am complaining about the flowers..and no one is listening..I just keep taking seed over their and scattering it to replace the damage..well to try !!I like to see green not concrete..
Sorry to hear that Jay! I listen to so many people that have lived in UK all their lives say that they are sick and tired of living here, for all sorts of reasons and not least due to housing etc development in their back yard. Perhaps we should all head off to where the Lady of Leisure lives?! Kind regards Roy
Did someone just say a dirty word 'in-fill'. Lets bull doze something beautiful and build some more executive boxes... Makes me sick! ..
When I moved into into my present domicile six years ago, it was practially out in the country and now it's already in the midst of a vast tract of new housing. More and more are going up still, thousands and thousands. My sister who lives about 7 miles away, bought a house that really was out in the country at the same time as me and guess what......!!!!!
