On my way home from my daughters I passed a sign on a gate. It said BEWARE DOGS RUNNING LOOSE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURY OR DEATH.

Surely this is an illegal threat?

    Just steer well clear !

Beware Dogs Running Loose - is a fair warning.

Not Responsible for Injury or Death - one for the legal eagles, though doubt it holds any sway if you have not entered their premises.

Would say if they think their dog/s could do that then they should have some stringent fencing etc to prevent any escape if being left loose.

Thankfully folk are beginning to find that they are being held fully responsible for their dogs, be interesting to hear what happens to that guy who was arrested for murder after his dog killed a man in Sunderland recently.

You dont know what problems they have had in the past to make them put a sign up like that.
There are some knobs around with dogs these days but they mostly dont give warnings.

It would be illegal to possess a dangerous dog that is not under control but that doesn't mean to say that the person who put up the sign actually has a dog. If they don't have a dog then it's not illegal.

I'd be inclined to report it to both the police and the Council (because I enjoy complaining :roflol:) but don't expect to get much of a response.

The law takes a peculiar stance when it comes to the use of signs such as 'beware of the dog' or 'Warning Guard dog' and other similar signs. In the event a sign such as this is displayed and your dog attacks another person entering your property, then the owner is liable for prosecution.

Thing is some people put these signs up without thinking.
