    Hello,

I have 2 chestnut trees in pots I raised from conkers. This is their 3rd summer but I have just knocked the top growth off one of them. Should I wait to see if new buds shoot or chop the top off to just above the sideshoots.

    Thanks

Personally I'd wait and see what happens. If the top begins to die back then a little pruning would be OK. Does it have bud nodules between the side shoots and the top? If so then it could sprout from these.

Thanks for that Celia. No, there is nothing between the upper sideshoots and the tip. I think I will give it another week then if there is no activity chop it! That way, I figure the energy gets diverted to those sideshoots instead of the tip that was knocked off by it's clumsy owner!
