my 95 yr old dad had to go into hospital last week, hernia diagnosed and operated on at 10 pm Thursday night. Friday he was out of bed hobbling around, but complained Saturday morning that his knees were sore. I asked the nurse if it would help if he has some voltarol or similar to rub on- " it's Saturday, dispensary closes at midday for the weekend"
So really? Doctors in, nurses in, but no drugs dispensed all weekend?
Good job I had a tube in the cupboard

Oh Golly :ouch1:, that's not really good enough:nonofinger:. I know our hospital dispensery shuts at 12 on a Saturday BUT I also know when my dear old nan was with us & in hospital the ward had a meds cupboard, ok it didn't have everything in it of course but it had basic meds, thank goodness you were able to get your dad some volterol :dbgrtmb:.

Now more importantly, I hope your dad is doing well & will soon be back home. Healing vibes coming his way :grphg:

Speedy recovery wishes for your father Ariadae. Must be quite an upheaval for him on a number of levels :grphg:

Crikey, I had no idea that was the case with hospital dispensary's  Very fortunate indeed that you had some! Wonder what happens for those patients, similar to your father, but who don't have an "Ariadae" to help them? Does that mean they are left in discomfort and stress?

Just points to the fact that hospitals should have 24-7 cover in all aspects.
How its achieved is debatable, but it should never have been allowed to carry on this long.

Hope your dad is feeling better soon xx
It is a joke trying to get medications at weekends, the pharmacists need to be there 24hrs for everyone..one day them themselves will need one out of hrs! x

That's very bad, around us there is a published list of pharmacies that are open at weekends 24 hrs, I never realised that hospitals shut theirs, how crazy is that!

Our 95 year old Dad is in and out of hospital at the moment, we have had plenty of problems recently, usually getting meds approved at the weekend is the issue due to no doctors around but the nurses have been allowed to give him sleeping tablets from the ward supply on their own initiative. When he is not in hospital things are much better, Thamesdoc can and do arrange emergency drugs delivered to his doorstep, I'm talking about antibiotics so maybe voltarol might not fit in that category.

          Hope your Dad recovers soon.

Thanks all for your good wishes. He's still inside, but quite cheerful now that he's improving slowly.
