How are you all enjoying the heat?
Saw a forecast at lunch time which shows London having 32C by 3PM tomorrow afternoon, poor things.

Our plants and shrubs are all wilting, and the borders and lawns are all cracking.
We haven't got a hosepipe ban, but cannot get enough grey water to water everything.

If this keeps up it will be like the drought of 1976,and we shall save a fortune, by not jetting off to European countries to find some sun.

    Have a warm weekend everyone.

    Kandy
    Good Luck Engaland this afternoon.

You are having it hotter there than we are! We only went to 27,5oC yesterday and will probably be about the same today.

I missed the drought of 1976 as I was in America but I've heard it mentioned so many times I feel like I was there!

The heat is too much for my garden. :( Hosepipe ban makes things difficult, but the strength of the sun day after day is scorching the flowers. :( :( Many roses are crisp now like they have been microwaved. Perhaps we should start a July photo topic entitled "Burnt Offerings" or "Bonfire of the vanities" ;)

It sure has been hot, even my clay garden is wilting a tad. Fortunately my water company has no hose pipe ban yet, so whilst being slow to use water, the hose pipe was used this week. Not the sprinkler, to conserve water and ensure its targetted where its needed.

Next week - the rains are forecast maybe.

It's not been hot here, a partly cloudy day only just touching 23c and quite a breeze. [IMG]

I've had a thermometer on a shady wall for years, its probably not an official type temp. but it must be close, it reached 29C today, but I've already had a 30+ this year.

My max-min thermometer recorded 32 degrees today - that's about 90 in old money. I keep it in one of those slattted white weather boxes so it gets no sun and no wind.

Lawn is fine because we are getting heavy dews and the soil is not too bad and quite moist under the trees. The problem is the sheer ferocity of the sun' rays that is actually burning flowers and leaves. Strangely enough - my ostrich plume ferns are mostly ok. That suggests that the clay and humus soil is retaining moisture well. Just need a giant sunshade for the roses. Front garden which gets most of the sun is ok because that is mainly herbs. Sweet peas are not at all happy this year. :(

You topped me again today, we were only 27,5oC. Why does everyone say it's too hot to live here?

Fortunately sweet peas bloom in April / May here so don't get burnt by the sun (I plant them out directly in the ground in November).

I'd really would like some of those cicadas, they really do sound great on a warm evening.
My campsis is yet to flower, but its growing like crazy as usual.

Hi, Mona Lisa, ... glad I'm in COOL Portugal !!!

Been thinking about a Campsis radican but can't figure out where to put it .. they are in full bloom here at the moment and brilliant!

We've only had the cicadas twice, last week, when we barely topped the 30 mark. Haven't been over 27,5oC since then. England's hotter !!!!

Well this morning at 3.44am we actually had about 200 give or take a few, rain spots!!It was such a surprise that I had a peep out of the bedroom window to see it.

I don't think I shall need to build the ark just yet...

Its really hot here the air quality is dismal..I have fans running in every room and an ice cooling machine on to keep the dog and me cool...I have been up since 3 its too hot upstairs as my house catches all the sun  the plants are okay as they are mainly herbs and wildflowers so they will tolerate the heat ..I have had to water in my greenhouse three times a day as i have lots of tomatoes and cucumbers in their..and plants ready for next year so thats drying out fast..no hose pipe ban here thank goodness!!The grass on my front garden looks a bit scorched as that gets maximum sun...I have had to top my pond up daily as its full of birds splashing around..so i let it overflow to water my bog loving plants..because i live on a main road when its hot like this the traffic fumes are awfull and their are factorys not too far away either..Its hotter than i would like it to be and i hope it rains soon..The worst thing about this sort of weather is it usually breaks into a thunder storm!! :( i dont like thunder storms when i was young my aunty used to make us sit under the table when it was thundering and she would remove mirrors and knives and forks..and i guess the memory of that lingers with you forever!!

I too couldn't sleep because of the heat,so decided to have a peep on the site instead.
I could do with a fan up in the bedroom, but my husband would complain of the noise.

A lot of my friends have bought those tall tower fans that all seem to be the rage at the moment, but I am not sure if they do a good job.

The clouds outside are dark, as if it is going to do something, but I don't suppose it will.

We were all complaining the other month about how cold it was and we needed some sun...Now we have got it,all we do is moan at how hot it is...

I think the UK must be the only place that can have every type of weather in one day.
