I can't recall if I've mentioned before but there's a new house going up across the road from us.
Used to be some scraggy trees and holly shrubs that the plot owner couldn't manage (knackered heart and joints at only 40!) so he sold off half the plot to a developer. Whereas I miss the greenery, it was in a terrible state and the piece of land was always intended to have a house on it.
I was concerned as to what the developer would build and that it would look out of place but I'm very pleased to say that it's a rather attractive brick built house. Complete with some fancy brickwork detailing and it fit's in nicely so far with the houses around it.
No real reason for the post but it's really nice to see a developer that recognises the value to the neighbours of having not the cheapest build possible but the nicest house you can build for the budget.

It seems that some developers have realised that shoehorning the smallest, cheapest built properties in all over the place is not the way to go; there is a new build just around the corner from me, which we were all dreading as the original planning permission was for a small house and a block of six flats - the developer changed this and has built a really nice, good sized house that fits in well with neighbouring properties and has a few nice details such as subtle down lighting built into the soffits.
