House Plant

    Hi, i have this in my house and have no idea what it is...

    i`ve watered it every wk and now it seems to be dieing... so i want to change it, im looking for a plant that will not grow to tall or wide 16" wide at the most if i can trim it cool.... but most off all it will get no sunlight what so ever!!!! so any ideas? pictures would be great many thanks steve. :ntwrth:

    Looks like the remains of Zamioculcas zamiifolia which like the exact opposite of your conditions:)

    Try a Sansevieria trifasciata, (mother in laws tongue), but dont water it nearly as much.

    i have bought the above today "mother in laws tongue" it can in a 16cm pot.... the pot its going into is 26cm, so do i just use noraml compost to infill it? cheers :cnfs:

    What that plant is, Scooby-Mas, is no ornament. You're right to get rid of it.
    I'll second Pete and say if you're looking for plants which will thrive on neglect and no sun, then Mother in laws tongue and Aspidistra are the ones to go for.

    And yes, to pot on your mothers in laws tongue any normal compost will do.

    I tend to use a cacti like compost for Mother in Laws Tongue.

    It can rot at the roots if its wet for any length of time.

    You're right Pete. Mother in laws tongue, and all succulents, will rot if they are kept too wet.
    I thought we were talking about plants that would do well on total neglect - a little bit of water when they were remembered about.
