Hi I've bought a Houttuynia cordata chameleon.. Anyone have any experience of this plant before i plant it? It has lovely colours and is obviously good for ground cover. Thought I might plant it close to my new climbing rose, where the ground is a bit bare at the moment. Stingo
It grows like crazy in my garden - so you guessed it like wet and part shade. I saw my first bit peeping today, by august it will be in full fling.
I have it in my garden and it's in a place where it isn't really damp enough for it [usually, it is at the moment!] and it isn't rampant at all. It won't spread if it's not in dappled shade and damp conditions, although it is beautifully coloured you'll probably be disappointed if that's what you want from it. I would have thought places that roses like would not be damp enough. I have a thriving bit actually in water!
You will often find it in aquatic sections of GCs which indicates it's liking for damp/wet conditions. Just don't let it get too dry.
Houttuynia cordata Chamelion........ Good plant..... in my experiance easily controlable just dig up what you dont want, preferes damp conditions but will tolerate even dryish pots and is even happy as Liz and Strongy said in water I put a pot in the pond every spring....
really? any good stir fry recepees - oh of course i am allergic to non vegi meals, non wheat free meals anything uncreative and things that give me spots!
Thanks for all that great info. I will have to think again about where to put it but I have got a dappled and damp spot that I can sqeeze it into.
