This is threatening to be a major problem in one part of my garden, it got to the top of a large tree rapidly and could well have killed it. I managed to clear the tree of growth (a Herculean task), and cut it off at the base, but of course it's trying to come back.

It makes a running root, its stems are like wire, it twines tightly, very tightly, round branches. Its leaves are small. Help!!!!! The weird thing is that if you google it no-one seems to appreciate it for the evil plant it is. You just see cute looking hanging baskets of it, that sort of thing.

I know next to nothing about it, but have you tried applying something like glyphosate to it? You might need to bruise the foliage or stems to get it absorbed though.

Hopefully someone who knows more than I do will be along shortly

It will be hard to apply glyphosate. The leaves are very small and the stems are woody and thin. Also its habit of twining tightly around plants means that it will be difficult to isolate.

About 20 minutes of your time and one of these should sort it.

Personally, if it were mine I would keep it and keep it trimmed but each to their own.
If you do set to it, make sure there are no birds nesting in it............or wasps !!:runforhills:
