I've quite a nice palm tree on my gravelled terrace but want to place a bench in its place. So either I chop it off and bin it OR try and pot it and give it away. It's been there a while and it's a shame to kill it. What should I do? 2m tall, about 12cm diameter at the base of the trunk.

    Any suggestions welcome!

Can you just put the bench in front of the Palm? perhaps raise the crown just a bit.

Otherwise dig it up with as big a rootball as possible and keep it well watered.

As said I would just put the bench in front of the palm. Strip the lower leaves off it so you have a clean slender trunk with leaves just near the top only. Will tale up less room as a result.

Or lift it and keep it damp, wrap root ball in an old sack to keep it moist. Or get someone else to do it after they win it on an ebay auction

Go along with what has been said about stripping some of the leaves.
If you dont want it bin it.
I doubt that would move well, and if you sold it on Ebay you would be ripping someone off in my opinion.

It looks like Cordyline australis to me. They are notorious for being almost impossible to move successfully, even by the pro's. So as said previously, selling is not an option.

A bit of useless info - they are actually closer related to Asparagus than they are to palms despite their common name.

With the size of root ball needed to make sure it lives would be too heavy to lift, forget selling it, it's not something that can be put in the back of a car.
You could cut it down to ground level but new shoots will eventually replace it.
