Hi, I have a very sad lawn, it's patchy brown and full of clover. I would like to get rid of it and wondered if I should use weed killer or if I should dig it up. Any advice for a novice gardener would be welcome. Jill

    [IMG] Hi Jill,
Depends on size I suppose & how much energy you have. I re-turfed my lawn 6yrs ago now & I skimmed off all old grass about 2" thick, then rotovated a couple of times, Rolled it allot to get it flat again then re-turfed, or seed if you prefer. You could start preparing now but I would wait till nearer end of summer a bit as you will want plenty of rain or water, & as in short supply in some areas I would wait. Try giving it a good folia feed for lawns you may get a suprise. A well fed lawn will be fairly weed free & green.
Hope this helps a bit. [IMG]

Good advice from MF. I would add that after rotovating, fork it over and remove all the couch grass and dandelion roots or you'll have some unwelcome guests in a year or so!!
