I have just tried to make about 4 paper pots and they are not very good !! :lollol: So anyone have any good links on how to make the things! I need to pot up my sweetcorn pretty quickly, I seem to look at it and it grows.....

    Cheers

I use a WD-40 can (because it is about the right diameter, and tall enough that I can make pots of a range of heights), and then I found a spray can that was slightly smaller and had a nicely domed plastic lid.

I roll the newspaper round the WD-40 can, with about 2" sticking out past the bottom of the can, and this I fold into the middle and then ram it onto the smaller bore lid to firm up the base.

Then I slide it off the WD-40 can and I fold down the top 1/2" all the way round - this "locks" the flappy joint up the side.

Lastly, when I put them in a tray (filled with compost) I make sure that all the flappy joints are "inwards" so that as they grow and gte moved in and out of the greenhouse there is less chance of them catching on things / opening etc.

I'm using gravel trays to stand them in - about 2" depth I suppose. Its a bit shallow - unstable when carrying them - I have read that some people wrap around the outside of the whole bundle with clingfilm to stop the outer ones falling out of the bunch - I tried that but had NO control over a piece of cling film that long!

I'll find Robert's video for you to look at, which is probably must easier to see than reading my wibble!!

Thanks Kristen once again!! I have removed about 10 of the seedlings from the tray - I was very surprised at the size of the root and unfortunately had to move the root around to get it into the pot so I have my doubts about the sweetcorn 'growing up', no doubt at the rate it was growing I will see in a couple of days :)
