I've been offered some dwarf bean plants which I'm anxious to accept but I'm seriously short of space. For some time we've been thinking of digging up a strip of lawn next to a path and making a narrow bed (12" wide x about 15' long), just to accommodate some bedding plants, however, for this year we'd, be happy to put the bean plants there only I don't really want them 'flopping' over the lawn - too much.

How high will dwarf bean plants grow?

probs less than 12 inches - dependent on variety and i stake mine to stop them flopping over

thay are very yummy when they are so fresh so deff worth doing

Depends on the variety. I've grown dwarf French beans (Purple Queen) and they topped out at about 60-70cms. They most definitely needed supports. They're also very, very prolific so a variety that's good for freezing helps to avoid waste.

Many thanks - I'm happy to accommodate anything up to about 18" and don't mind providing supports, it's just that there didn't seem much point if these poor things were going to be walked on one side and have their 'parts' chopped about by the lawn mower on the other. Yes - I know, I could move them when I mow, I'm just a lazy mower!
