    Hello,

    I need some advice please.
I have some tomato plants and cucumber plants which I have grown from seed in the conservatory, now I think I might plant them out in veg patch I've prepared but am not sure if they are ready for that yet.

If they are ready then how far apart should I plant them and should I include some canes for them to grow up?

    Here's some pics:

They look well, are you still getting cold nights, I'd be a bit wary if you are.
Having said that 18 ins would be good for the toms, the cues will need something to climb up.
I'm assuming they are outdoor varieties.

Nights are not too cold now in North Wales but our garden gets really windy at times as it backs onto fields.

Not sure what varieties they are as someone threw away the packaging

Will the toms need something to climb up as well?

      Thanks

The toms will need staking and tying in to the stakes, or canes.

If the cues are not outdoor ones they will not do well outside.

They were a gift last birthday from my Grandchildren so I asked my Daughter where she got them so I could find out, they are Cucumis Sativus and Cherrola F1 toms

I think I might have too many for the space I have now!

Is it also 18 inches for the Cucumbers?

Well, things need space to do well, I think you may be ok with the toms but Cucumis sativus is just the Latin name for cucumber, you really need to know the variety I would think.

If you do some googling you can get more info.

It happens to us all, it is better to give your spares away or compost them as cramming too many in will actually give you less yield and will encourage pests and disease.

I grow mine on 'wigwams' of bamboo canes; take 7* 6ft canes and push into the ground in a circle about 3ft in diameter. Tie tightly at 5ft up to create a tent. Plant one cucumber behind each cane and tie it to its cane. Repeat tying as they grow.
            * I see only 6 !! cues.

              Hello again,

I'm returning to this thread for further advice please.

I planted out a few of the toms and cucumbers and kept the rest in the conservatory, here are some pics:

As you can see the inside plants have done a lot better than the outside ones but now the inside plants have outgrown their pots.

Should I plant all of them outside or into bigger pots?

I have some 23cm pots available as shown in pic 3

              Thanks
