Whoa, Nathan, another good one .... it's a requirement in the South (US that is and I have licenses from South Carolina and Alabama) to parallel park as part of your test ... you have three attempts and it must be perfection to a certain distance from the curb and the cars front and rear .... shame they don't have the same tests in the UK. :dh:

PS I appreciate these are American videos but I'd like to see some Brits park in these conditions .....

I've never been much good at parallel parking but one has to try on occasions and I have often surprised myself when I've slotted into a space just right!

However, I usually make sure the space is actually long enough for the car first!

I'm sure parallel parking is part of the UK driving test.

Poor woman, bless her. That's a case of give up and find somewhere else!

    LoL,

The woman parking in the video above is definately not in the UK, I would say French or maybe even Italian.

Parallel parking was (when I took my test) part of the driving test, I would imagine it definately is now, as the tests have got more complex.

Parallel parking was in my driving test, and the blokes on the video were Italian I think.

She is very persevering, you can`t fault that-and she didn`t actually hit anything, so not so bad. Maybe amusing, but not dangerous.

She did hit the cars, watch as the Fiat Panda shudders a few times, and at one point she actually scra.pes in past the Corsa.

As you say, not dangerous, but highly amusing for us.

I think that is so unfair, she would not be expected to have to park in such a tiny space on a test in this country. Parallel parking is part of the driving test over here and you are expected to get it right 1st time. 02

It was the round of applause she gave to one of the cars trying to get past her that for me is the funniest bit.

Thanks for that Nathan! had a laugh but felt sorry for her - but she did not give up easily did she :hehe:
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I must confess when I first passed my test about 40 years ago I tried to park in a space that
was too small on the roadside and on a steep hill.
Unfortunately I sort of bent [IMG]
the front of somebody's car and our bumpers got locked together :dh: so, needed professional help
    - well, some lifting gear to unhook them - but not to worry a couple of young men in a car behind
stopped and as there was a small garage just the other side of the road I said I would go over and ask
for assistance only to be told ' don't worry - we are the men from the garage!" Was my face red!!
The man whose car I damaged had just that morning collected it from having new front lights fitted :hehe:
he was not amused. I do not ever try to park in small spaces since that incident.

    Brilliant Nathan, that is awful.

I am very good at parking, Years spent reversing trailers, driving agricultural vehicles with articulated trailers, lwb vans and pickups..... I often like to pick a tight space just for the hell of it!!!!

That said there was one unfortunate incident just after I passed my test when I had an old rover 416 without power steering and drove into a parking space!!!!! the cars to either side both sustained marks !!!!!!!

Unfortunately I am pretty rubbish at parking-I mean I can be okay when I want to be, but I`ve hit 3 cars ( all my hubbys so that`s all right), smashed into gateposts and once ended up almost in a duckpond. But c`est la vie!

Now that space was just not big enough for the car, if she'd spotted that first time round none of that would have happened.

Is it just me getting old or is parking a motor in that fashion much harder these days, it wasn't a problem a few years back, but the rear view from most cars these days seems more restricted.
Its due to most modern cars having a high rear end, and the doors are so high, before the glass bit starts.
    like sitting in a tank.

And there is always those expensive alloy wheels that mark with the slightest touch on the kerb.:)
