This isn't really strictly a gardening question but I'm hoping you won't mind...

I'm doing the flowers for my best friend's wedding at the end of the month and am going to be doing 26 arrangements of pumpkins hollowed into bowls and filled with flowers (hallow'een and all that). My question is if I bought the pumpkins from the supermarket now (3 weeks to go), can anyone reassure me that they'd be just fine stored in my garage? I'm sure they last for months, and I don't want to leave it until the last minute as they need to be really nice ones and I want to have some choice in the shops.

    Thanks very much,
    Helen:)

Yes they will keep provided the garage is not too warm. Its a good idea to start shopping for them now in case there aren't any around nearer the time. Obviosuly don't do the hollowing out now!

Follow the advice above and they should be perfectly fine. If you can, get ones that have some of the stalk still on them as well, as if I recall correctly, this helps them last longer as well.

Sound pumpkins will keep for months
Check them over for bruises or damage before buying as damaged ones can rot very quickly

I'd store them, like I'd store apples, in a cool, dry, dark place. Should be for several months.
