I had the idea that you could pick asparagus for six weeks, but I just found a note I had made, years ago, that it was eight. Which is right? I don't think I have been feeding them enough for they are getting thinner every year, so I don't want to exhaust them.
    :please: and thank you .....

No (conclusive) idea, but, I didn't want to "read and run".

My thoughts are, if you read 'years ago' that it was 8, then run with it! Just ... feed them (?).

I'm not picking any of mine this year, the cold spring has resulted in a very poor crop so I'll let them grow on in the hope they can gather strength for next year.

I thought it was longest day too, but mine have started to get thin so I'm going to stpo cropping, sprinkle some fertiliser and then water them well :)

          What strength!
I only realised just recently that their being thin was caused by lack of food. We give them compost every winter but apparently not enough. I've just started giving them lots of comfrey water which is supposed to be good.
Well, I'd better stop eating just to be sure. Have had plenty this year, although thin, anyway!

Mine got a barrow-load of well-rotted cow muck per two crowns last year:phew: With that and the remains of the stone from building the house (it dissolves in the rain:hate-shocked:) they're happy as, er, pigs in muck....

I pick from early March for eight to twelve weeks, depending on how much I can conserve and on how soon we get fed-up with eating it

I've heard they are neigh-on impossible to re-home, but hopefully you have a plan?
