Reading the quorn thread got me thinking as to how many folk on here are vegetarian and their reasons.

I'm about 90% vegetarian largely due to a dislike/ indifference to most meats certainly fatty roasts, heavy meats like beef and all sausages.

The main exception to this is i have a love of ham and bacon and buy both regularly. We have a very good local butcher who's bacon is something to die for and importantly locally produced.

I'm not a fan of fatty meat - the idea of chewing on a piece of gristle makes me gag, althugh I do love a nice piece of crackling! I lived with a veggie for years and consequently ate a lot of vegetarian food then as I did the cooking, but even then I couldn't give up my sausages and bacon. And I love poultry meat, game meat and fish. So it's just red meat I could do without.

I know that this thread is about vegetarianism but it seems to be bringing out the picky meat eaters as well :lollol:
I have the same dislike of fat and gristle and have to trim every bit off before I cook the meat. We have our own beef in the freezer so we don't have to worry about the provenance of the meat - it was hapy beef. We also make our own sausages.
If I eat out I tend to go for poultry or fish because I can never tell what is 'hiding' in the sauce around the dark meat:oops:

I am a vegetarian-not quite vegan because I don't think I can give up creamy hot chocolate made using full fat milk. However I would if I had to-I am extremely lucky in that I live across the road from a small farm and can get my dairy produce from there-fresh milk, sometimes still warm from milking, and I can testify to the fact that their chickens are free range because I keep finding them in my garden-lol.

I have no problem with people eating meat, my family ( apart from my eldest daughter) are omnivorous and I buy and prepare their food without any ethical issues. I would never ever allow meat in my house that wasn't ethically farmed and slaughtered.
Besides, my favourite food in the world is vegetarian-fluffy buttery mashed spuds, covered in onion gravy and garden peas. I have no desire to eat meat, which helps-some vegetarians crave meat, which I don't understand, I think they should just be very careful about where they buy it-and what it is they are buying and give in to the desire.
