Oregano comes very easily from seed. Just plant some more.

Hi sterile. I have an Origanum laevigatum 'Herrenhausen' which is now about 5 or 6 years old. Its still expanding and looking good. So it can't be that short lived. Its just possible that yours got knocked back badly, as a young plant, over the winter.

But I feel it should recover if it gets full sun and well drained, even dry, soil.

We got clumps all over the place many of which are self seeded. Our biggest clumps are at least 5 years old.
