Given all the gardening related activities you're involved with each day, what would you say is the average amount of time you devote to it?

This is including time spent reading and talking about the subject.

Depends on the season tbh. Winter less than 5 hours per week but spring, summer and autumn in excess of 20, even more if I get a full day on the weekend.
Once it's light past 5pm I'm out in the garden most evenings after work.
I can't be more precise because I enjoy it so the time just flies!

Depends on the season, yes. Depends on the size of the area. My 3 acres versus, back yard lots.
So there is no real answer I can give you. I do gardening in January also (as an example). Most evenings after work when the time changes, and on weekends. Work outside of the home full time. May be gathering ideas, and making lists in the snowy weather.

As others have said, depends on the season.
In spring and summer, I spend at least an hour a day outside in the evenings in the garden.

In autumn, and winter, after everything has died down, and I have fleeced the tropicals, it is hardly any.
But I then spend hours on plant forums, plant related websites, reading plant/gardening books, browsing (and drooling over) catalogues.

At the moment I'm in the garden everyday and depending whether I'm working or not will govern how much time I spend.

Winter not a lot, not much to do apart from checking overwintering plants in the greenhouse a couple times a week.

Spring a lot more busy, with sorting out plants, seeds etc.

Summer couple hours a week, doesn't take long to mow which hubby normally does, I probably spend an hour watering my containers and dead heading...

Work days, I spend 30-45 minutes watering my seedlings/plants in the greenhouse and various containers outside, and general check. Mind you I do work a 12 hour shift so out of the house for 14 hours.

              Autumn, less time than summer.

But this spring it's been full on, 7-8 hours a day on my days off... As not only am I've been repotting, pruning, growing and watering. I've redesigning my garden, taking out the raised lawn, which has been a task and a half, due to what it actually hid, concrete shed dumped in a disused fishpond, a previous patio... Previous people, just brick all this around with a retaining wall, and dump several tons of top soil in!

But annual leave starts today, and all preparations completed, so we start rebuilding, we aren't putting a lawn back in, but putting raised beds, and paving the area.... So hopefully by the weekend I be ready to start to decide on plants, oh and where to place my various containers around about 15 of them oops

Not enough time! :heehee: I'd be out there all day everyday if I could! I'm saving so this can be a reality!
I'm always talking about the garden, looking at mags, searching on the Internet as time allows. Work is always quite busy & it really gets in the way, but that's not a bad thing whilst I'm still at an age where I can do it all, but once I cant :old: I just hope I shall have sufficient funds to allow me to cut down/stop. :hapydancsmil:There's so much more is do if I had more spare time, one day this will all happen

This is quite eye opening as i'm seeing what I can do with my garden with limited time. I don't get home from work before 8pm at the earliest, and probably have 20 minutes at most on weekday (a head torch is an indispensible accessory for gardening in the dark). Weekends will be a few hours max, but my garden is quite small. It's going to be a challenge balancing what plants I want vs what plants I have time for.

depends on the weekend weather for me.
This weekend I spent about 5 hours in the garden. If its raining then I probably wont do much except go out and pick some weeds from my veg patches (getting ontop of it this year :) )

I still have my small conservatory packed with seedlings at the moment though which I tend to visit several times a day. I don't know what I expect to see 3 hours after the last time I went in there but I still do it lol

It varies depending on my mood, my caring responsibilities, my back, the season and the weather.

Not as much time as I would like! I love gardening and spending time in the garden. I probably manage between 5 and 20 hours a week but the more the better I think!
