I wonder how much of an obsessive other people are?

I spend most of my free time in the garden, whether thats weekends or evenings. When its dark im often reading a gardening book or watching the UKTV gardening channel on sky.

My holidays tend to involve trips to places with gardens to visit, as well as garden centres - we are off to Cornwall next week and will do some of the big gardens down there - Tresco, Helligan, Lammoran and Eden to name a few as well as several nurseries - Hardy Exotics, Traverna Cross and Burncouse amoungst others.

I am a member of several specialist tropical plant and palm forums and have attended meets at places such as Kew, Wisley, Living Rainforest and nurseries such as Akamba or the Palm Centre.

So for the other obsessives how much time does gardening take, how big a part of your life is it?

I do like to go to garden centres, at home and on holiday. Not so keen on visiting gardens, but I might try a few this year.
I spent very little time in the garden over winter, but I've been out a good few hours these past few days while it's been nice.
I come on here most days and usually watch a bit of Alan Titchmarsh before I go to bed :)

I lost my obsession when I retired and decided to get a relaxing part time job.

I was offered one on the Isle of Tresco and only found out what it really was when I turned up, to be given a job stacking shelves on the aisles at Tesco.

:thumb:TG hope that you have a lovley holiday down in Cornwall.Heligon is lovely though we have done it in July when there was plenty of stuff in flower. You will need plenty of time to go round it because there is lots to see.:thumb:

We have a small garden which we are cramming full of plants and bulbs, trees and shrubs since we moved here seven years ago, plus 30 pole of allotment over at the village where we used to live. When we were young and nieve we used to even tend the plots when it was wet going down there with our water proofs on.We slowly got wise to it and gradually over the years the obsession has slowly wained.I tend to do more work on the allotment than Mr Kandy but since having back problems can't do as much at home or at the allotment:rolleyes:

I don't spend so much time gardening now as after 11/12 years I am established but things grow like wildfire here so I have to keep various things in check.

I still adore my garden and often "move it around" obviously things in pots but it's not unusual for me to uproot things planted years before and move them .... or lately to give fully grown things away that I don't think suit what I want .... a Norfolk Island Piine and a few other things are going to our friends later this month. :)

I have been growing exotics along side the other plants at work all my life and can't see myself stopping. I don't have much of a gaden to grow them in, that doesn't stop me either. Things may change and IF we get the place we are going for as it will have two greenhouses and a large garden, something I have never had and as reitrement looms in a few years I will be able to become more obsessed! At least I might be able to plant them in the ground instead of all in pots. I could then spend weekends in the garden instead of at work.:)

Pretty much the same as you tropical gaz. My wife HATES it. She likes it looking nice in the summer (this is only my second year of gardening and first at growing from seed). She just can't understand why I spend so much time out there. She says 'no one else has to spend that amount of time doing the garden'. I try to tell her they do, but she don't believe me, maybe I'll show her this tread ;-)

Hi gaz. I`ve always been interested in gardening, but until now, haven`t really had the chance to `get it on` ! Since the move, it`s all gone crazy, it`s pretty much gardening, or watching programs ABOUT gardening. Great this gardening stuff aint it ! :D Cheers...freddy.
