My first house cost £10,200 back in 1974 it was a 3 bedroomed mid terrace. Lucky to get a new car for that now.

The same year my weekly shopping bill was £12.50. :)

Yes, many things have escallated in price but electrical goods and technology have got cheaper.

I still have the same weekly budget here as I did 11 years ago when I moved here ... and I can assure you I don't scrimp on anything!

Yes from a machine, but that's was I'm basing it on, the vending machine price. They really have hiked in the past few years. Bottles are now approaching £2 in some vending machines.

My weekly budget is €100 so that's £78,50 give or take. With that I buy the groceries, which can include a pricier trip to Iceland, including any beers/spirits, 'bazaar' items which could include all sorts of items like plants or other gardening items (recently secateurs and long-handled tree cutting shears), sometimes clothing items, you know the sort of stuff Aldi sells, toiletries, and I always have money left over, which I squirrel away, sometimes buy a luncheon out and to also pay my 'gardener' for two hours a month ... but it is from my own personal pension ... and I can't even manage to spend it ... :heehee:

What!!! You'd pay £1.10 for a can of sugar in fizzy water? :hate-shocked: :heehee:

When I was a teenager they didn't sell Coke in cans :snork:

Our first house was £2,800 and we were terrified that we may not be able to pay the mortgage.

For the first three months we were in the house the only furnishings we had was a secondhand bed, three cushions (sat on them on the floor in the lounge) and a rather dodgy old cooker that we bought for £5.

Our weekly budget is similar but it doesn't include anything for the garden (separate garden budget) or clothes (can't remember the last time I bought any :heehee:)
